Cari Cook's work as a fabric artist began 12 years ago and continues to evolve as she pushes the boundaries of what she can do with wool. Her designs reflect her love of horses, the beauty of nature andimpressionistic art. Cari and her husband reside on a small farm in Longmont, CO and she's not in her studio, you can find her on her horse or working in the garden. Her website is: www.thequiltedhorse.net

In this class you will work with the softest of wools to make a unique felted necklace. You will learn how to make a cord and felted flowers and leaves. She says, "Quilting is my passion! I am a wife, mother, sister and grandmother, but primarily — I am a quilter!"

Pojagi is an Ancient type of needlework from Korea. Alice will bring many different pieces for everyone to look at. Typically the pieces are made from either silk, or raime (a plant fiber), and were originally used as utilitarian wrapping cloths. Today, Pojagi is an artwork all its own with designs ranging from simple to intricate.

In this class we will make two projects in the style of Pojagi, a pincushion in silk , and a small mat using Korean raime.

All supplies for both projects are included in the class kit that should be purchased directly from the instructor on the day of class for $30. Participants only need to bring general hand sewing supplies, ie – thimble, small scissors, etc.

June 28: Embellished Handmade Felt Tote Bag with Mary Blanche Morse 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Art Center Members: $72 Non-Members: $80

Mary Blanche Morse has been a professional feltmaker since 1993. Previously a Waldorf School teacher for nine years, she then began teaching feltmaking at fiber shops and festivals. Her classes focus on creating useful (and loveable) handmade felt projects using simple techniques and having fun experiencing the magic of feltmaking.

Sheep's’ wool (and fibers from other animals too) can be made into FELT with just soap and water, and agitation – rubbing, rolling or whatever it takes. In these classes you can see how that happens, be artistic about it, if you like, and take home a piece of handmade felt art that you made yourself. FUN!

Choose colorful wools to make a useful and attractive tote bag. This project is hand- felted in one piece with a built-in cotton lining and straps. Use fun fiber embellishments to create unique patterns that become part of the felt surface during the felting process.

Class participants will learn and experience some basic principles and techniques of feltmaking, and finish a bag suitable to tote magazines, books, projects, laptop or whatever. (Some feltmaking experience helpful, but not at all necessary!)

Bring: two towels, and scissors to use in class. All materials are provided by the teacher, and a materials fee of $15 is payable directly to the teacher on the day of class.
