Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is the latest entry in FromSoftware's long-dormant action franchise spanning over four console generations and 26 years of gaming. Once considered "the Gran Turismo of mecha games," the last entry in the series was Armored Core: Verdict Day on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. Now almost ten years later, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is set to bring a whole new legion of fans into a series that made the Japanese developer a household name before Dark Souls. Here's the lowdown on Armored Core 6, including when it will release.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon has not been given an exact release date, but the first trailer to be shown back in December of 2022 showed a window of 2023.

There has been some speculation that Armored Core 6 could be out by September 2023. Leaker and gaming insider eXtas1s first proposed this window in early March 2023.

Armored Core 6 is the latest in a long-running series of games centered around mercenary mech pilots. While there is no connecting narrative across more than two or three games, some common threads of story still remain.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is a new story that takes place in a distant future when mankind has spread out into intergalactic travel. On a planet called Rubicon-3, a new energy source was discovered that could revolutionize all forms of human technology. But there was an incident in the Rubicon star system that ignited the new energy source and turned the entire planet and the entire system into a "Burning Star System." 50 years later, the ruins of Rubicon-3 have revealed the energy source has returned. Now corporations and mercenary groups are vying for control of Rubicon-3.

You will be playing as a mercenary pilot that infiltrates Rubicon-3 flying missions for the highest bidders. Corporations and resistance groups alike will be wanting your skills as a pilot and fighter.

The first trailer shows a red spark of crackling energy, then cuts to a scene of a planet's surface being engulfed by red flames that obliterates everything in its path. Zooming out to a 6ew of multiple planets in space, the flames spread across an entire star system, destroying whatever may be left in its path. This is likely the "incident" on Rubicon-3 described in the story synopsis. Then the caption, "Feed the fire. Let the last cinders burn." is shown on screen. A ruined cityscape covered in ash is panned across, mo6ng to a close-up of a mechanical arm being picked up by a giant robot with a massive backpack. The mech looks off into the distance and sees a fight break out on a far away bridge.

The rest of the trailer doesn't reveal much, but serves as a kind of "sizzle reel" of action set pieces to give the mood and overall feel of the game. Lots of explosions, big robots, and lots of weapons.

Armored Core 6 will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X & S. This will be the first time an Armored Core title has ever officially been released on the PC platform.
